94 people were murdered in domestic violence-related incidents in Colorado in 2022.
Fatality in interpersonal relationships has increased since the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Fatality in relationships refers to the risk of someone being murdered by their abuser.
Here are some questions to consider if you are concerned about yourself or a loved one.
Does the abuser have access to firearms? Have they ever used and/or threatened to use firearms against you/your loved one?
Has the abuser’s behavior/violence recently escalated? Ex: Beginning to isolate you/your loved one more than they have in the past (forcing someone to quit school/job/student activities, less contact with others, ect.)
Has the abuser strangled you or cut off your breathing?
If yes, has it happened more than one? Have you blacked out? Have you urinated or defecated on yourself?
Has the abuser had a recent loss? Ex: Job loss, death of a loved one, decreased/lost custody of children, etc.
Does the abuser have anything left to lose?
Has the abuser been able to avoid being arrested for domestic violence in the past
Has the abuser increased their drug or alcohol use
PLEASE NOTE:
This is NOT an extensive list for assessing whether you or your loved one is at-risk for being murdered in their abuser.
